Harlem Emergency Preparedness Day 2016

Harlem Emergency Preparedness Day

WHCR-90.3FM held its annual Harlem Emergency Preparedness Day on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 on the plaza of the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office building.

The purpose of this annual event is to give residents of the Harlem community information, skills and tools to prepare them for emergencies and natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew, which has currently killed over 1000 people in Haiti and caused mass destruction in Haiti, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia.

Participating organizations included Harlem Hospital Center, the Citizen Preparedness Corp, FDNY, South Harlem CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), HEN (Harlem Emergency Network), NYCEM (New York City Emergency Management) and WEBT (WHCR’s Emergency Broadcast Team).

WHCR-90.3FM distributed 150 go bags to participants and has a waiting list for 100 more.

Special thanks to 125th Street Farmer’s Market for sharing the plaza with us.
